Blandford School students volunteer at the National School Games. Six students from Year 13 were selected to volunteer at this year’s National School Games at Loughborough University. They committed 4 days of their summer holiday in order to help Olympic stars of the future. These students were Emma Sully, Jaydee Burchell, Flo Bailey, Alyce Peaty, Faisal Giwa and Cameron McNab.
Several Olympians were on hand to add their advice and support including gold medal winners Max Whitlock and Alex Danson. Teams competed as areas of England plus Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland had their own representative teams.
Our students did a huge range of activities from volleyball, girls rugby, hockey, wheelchair basketball and athletics. In fact, on the first afternoon they were scoring and judging the fencing competition. Within their roles they were expected to take on crowd control, scoring and judging events, health and safety, media work and presentation of medals.
They were all staying as residents at the University which gave them a fantastic insight into university life. They were able to interact with their mentors who were all undergraduates of Loughborough. They had an amazing experience and they are all keen to volunteer again next year.
