The Governing Board has the following core strategic functions:
Establishing the strategic direction, by:
- Setting the vision, values, and objectives for the school
- Agreeing the school improvement strategy with priorities and targets
- Meeting statutory duties
Ensuring accountability, by:
- Appointing the Headteacher
- Monitoring progress towards targets
- Performance managing the Headteacher
- Engaging with stakeholders
- Contributing to school self-evaluation
Ensuring financial probity, by:
- Setting the budget
- Monitoring spending against the budget
- Ensuring value for money is obtained
- Ensuring risks to the organisation are managed
There are four committees that meet throughout the year. Three of them have delegated powers.
Resources Committee [6 meetings]
Chair, Mr Peter Slocombe; Vice-Chair, Mr Martin Richley.
The Committee is responsible for all aspects of the School’s budget and premises together with ensuring the School is compliant with both employment law and education law as applicable to employees. Responsibility for health and safety falls to this Committee.
Chair, Mr John Tanner; Vice-Chair, Mr John Seaton
This Committee monitors the quality of teaching and the curriculum by providing effective challenge to the Headteacher [and staff] to ensure that provision is of the highest standard possible. The Committee is tasked with monitoring interventions implemented through the use of the Pupil Premium.
Further, the Committee is tasked with ensuring that the quality of the learning experience and progress of all students is such that there is outstanding achievement and enjoyment experienced by them.

The Committee considers the strategic objectives for the School in collaboration and consultation with the Senior Leadership Team and by agreeing the Strategic Objectives and the actions contained within the SDP with the Headteacher, recommend its adoption by the Full Governing Board.
The Committee will also consider any matter affecting the strategic direction of the School and make appropriate recommendations to the Full Governing Board.
Minutes of Governing Board meetings are available on request to the Clerk. Confidential minutes, however, are not available to members of the public.
Normally, minutes will be provided by email but if hard copies are requested then a small administrative charge will be made.
