Key Stage 4

The school curriculum in both KS3 and KS4 follows the National Curriculum.

During Year 9, students and parents (in consultation with the school) make choices of courses to be followed in Years 10 and 11. During these years, each student will study: English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Personal, Social and Religious Education alongside a range of option subjects. Students are expected to study at least one subject from the following; History, Geography, French, Spanish. They are also encouraged to ensure that their choices are broad and balanced and provide a suitable level of challenge for their ability. Full details of the courses offered will be published in the Options Booklet.

Most subjects offered at Key Stage 4 are GCSEs, but there are a small number of alternative courses such as BTECs and OCR Cambridge Nationals.

The choices which students make with their parents will be subject to advice from staff as to suitability and will be constrained where (for example) too few students choose a subject, thus making it uneconomic. Vocational courses are offered in partnership with external providers on an individual basis where a specific need is identified.
