Year 10 Geography Trip to Bristol (Letter)

Download Letter Here

Dear Parents / Carers,

We are planning a field visit to Bristol city centre in order to complete the compulsory fieldwork requirement of the GCSE Geography Edexcel course. The visit is essential to enable students to collect the primary data needed to complete their field studies preparation and subsequent examination come summer 2019.

Students will undertake a series of activities at Bristol to investigate how the quality of life varies throughout the city. Students will complete worksheet based activities throughout the day to collect relevant data that will be used in the classroom to write a draft report and plan for their examination. Students will be working in small groups and will be remotely supervised for periods of time. Staff will be circulating throughout the groups, with one member of staff located in a central location at all times. If you wish your child to be directly supervised at all times whilst on the visit, please do let us know.

The date of the visit for students is Wednesday 30th January 2019

Students will need to register with their tutors and make their way immediately down to The Hub at 8.45am where they will receive a short briefing. The coach will leave school at 9.00am and depart from Bristol at 2.30pm, arriving back at school at approximately 4.30pm. Please ensure that appropriate arrangements are made for your child to be collected at this time.

Students are required to bring a packed lunch, plenty of water to drink, pens and pencils and, if possible, a clipboard. If your child receives a free school meal, they will be entitled to a free packed lunch which will need to be ordered beforehand using the appropriate form entitled ‘FSM packed lunch order form’ attached to this letter. Students can also pre-order a packed lunch from The Hub using the attached form entitled ‘packed lunch order form’ should they so wish. These will need to be ordered and paid for in advance directly through The Hub. Food can be collected from The Hub on the morning of the visit prior to departure. A camera will also be very useful and students may use their mobile phone cameras. Students are required to wear school uniform for the duration of the trip. They will need to wear school shoes unless weather conditions are poor, in which case walking boots, wellington boots or trainers will be permitted. Students will also need a jacket or coat in case of wet and / or windy weather. A rucksack or suitable bag will be required to carry their equipment and lunch. A small amount of spending money may be useful as they will have an opportunity to visit the tourist information where leaflets and booklets to support their work are available should they wish. There will also be an opportunity to visit a food outlet during the lunch break for a snack and drink should students wish to bring some money to purchase something.

In order to meet the cost of the visit, we are requesting a contribution of £8.00 per pupil. The deadline for receipt of forms and payment is Thursday 30th January 2019. Forms and payment should be returned to the finance office at your earliest convenience. If you are unable to meet the cost of this compulsory field work day please contact Mrs White at The Blandford School for assistance.

Yours Sincerely,

Mrs H Muir
